I loved the challenge to the narrow NY Times list and your wonderful suggestions. I loved Tar Beach by quilt artist Faith Ringgold. Can't wait to see if you decide on another year of picture books or something else for your 2025 reading.
Thanks for picking up on this and some new books for me. In a the comment section I recorded they get or other media outlets a MLS degreed person who specializes in Children’s Literature because it is so vast and the new work amazing.
The ALA should work on streaming this and also have folks on to drop their favs. Levar Burton could host fur the first year and then once a year change of host.
Love this list! So many wonderful suggestions. I just pulled out our Children’s Christmas book collection-we love Humphrey’s First Christmas (about a Camel) it’s lovely.
Aaron and I really like the Journey, Quest, Return series by Aaron Becker and Anno's Journey by Mitsumasa Anno. These are wordless books, leaving it to the reader to notice the story. The first book by Becker starts with sepia pictures and just 2 other colors, as the story developed and complexity is added, color re-enters. We just finished the Ickabog by JK Rowling. Slow starting but Aaron exclaimed that it was a good book. Almost 300 pages, not a picture book, though. I love the Palestinian story Tunjur! Tunjur! Tunjur! All about a mother who prays for a child and gets a pot - pot didn't know right from wrong but learned the hard way

Oh, yes, that’s such a beautiful book! Great addition!

Yes, what a fun idea!
Thanks for your insights— here’s a non-fiction title from 2011 to inspire kids— Olivia’s Birds:Saving the Gulf. Very empowering for kids.
Oh, I don’t know that one. I’ll order it from the library. Thank you!

Oh, fun! I’ll look for that one.

Some of those are new to me. I might have to read children’s books next year, too.
